Friday Already?

Is it really Friday? Excellent! This (short) week has (seemingly) flown by and even though we are coming off of a (hypothetically) relaxing long weekend I am more than ready to have another little break. Having a long weekend can be extremely productive if you stay home but, if you go away all of your "fun" weekend chores spill over into the week which is what I have been contending with. Grocery? Nope. Laundry? Barely. Tidying up? Hahaha, you're funny but, I digress...

Today I gave up on my attempts to avoid jeans, which are normally allowable, on casual Friday. I had my reasons, at the beginning of the week when I put all these fabulous outfits together it was supposed to be cooler... thanks for lying, the weather. Also, it has been a crazy week (see aforementioned) and I am embracing the laid back attitude of casual Friday. Overall, I wanted to and is there any better reason that that?

October 1, 2011: Black, White, and Light Layers

Yeah, I've been having some issues keeping up with blogging. October is a new month and I am ready to get back on track without getting ahead of myself (I hope.) One of the biggest challenges I am facing in regards to getting dress is the weather. I wake up in the morning and it's cold but, by the end of the day it is extremely warm. Also, I was pretty darn sick and am still getting over the remnants of my illness so, these seemingly subtle changes in temperature are very noticeable to me.

My solution for now is light tops and a jackets/cardi with a pashmina in my purse in case I need additional warmth. Have you come down with the rando cold/flu that is plaguing the general population right now? How are you handling the change in the weather?

August 15, 2012: Dressing Appropriately

Since I am trying to pick out my clothes ahead of time weather.com has become an integral tool in the process. I have too often made the mistake of forgetting an umbrella, a coat, or generally wearing something completely inappropriate for whatever weather I will be faced with that day. When I was looking at the week ahead (last two weeks ago) everything was looking good except for Wednesday. With rain on the horizon I set aside some comfy and professional pants so I could face the impending precipitation as appropriately as possible.

My biggest struggle was finding shoes that worked with the pants since their length demands I stand a little taller but, I am still on the mend. I decided to take my life ankle into my own hands and wear a pair of shoes with a little heel. I can't say that it horrible but, it was definitely not the best idea. I'll be honest I haven't been giving my ankle the rest and relaxation or stretching that it needs; It's hard when you commute into New York City and work in a busy office; Excuses, excuses... Long story short: don't sprain ankles.

June 8, 2012: Ombre Friday

There is no secret that I love ombre, I gravitate to it even if I try not to. That being said I haven't added any new ombre pieces to my wardrobe in quite a while, this skirt was the last piece. I think it might be time to add (even) more ombre to life wardrobe. I wonder how I can do that without shopping, thoughts?

June 6, 2012: Floral Professional

There is nothing easier in the morning that throwing on a dress. I know I've said it before but, I'll say it again! It's even better for the office when you throw a blazer or cardigan on over to up the professional factor. I also needed something that would be comfortable past the proverbial 5 o'clock whistle since I had my mentoring meet up after work. This jersey dress fit the bill on all fronts plus, I love the floral pattern. What do you wear when you need something comfortable for work and beyond?

April 27, 2012: Professional Casual Friday

Even though I have made a pledge to focus more moving forward on upping my professionalism regarding my work wardrobe that doesn't mean that I am going to miss out on a chance to wear jeans to the office! Since the once a month casual Friday is linked to supporting a worthy charity I feel like it is win win for everyone! With all that being said I still made a concerted effort to keep the pointers that had been made in mind when putting together my outfit. How do you think I did?

August 17, 2011: Staycation Fail

I haven't been late on the posts (as is often the case) I have actually had a few days off. I wish I could say that BF and I did something super fun but, we didn't; the weather was so terrible and we didn't plan ahead so we just ended up staying at home for the most part. And while I will definitely say that a few days off was really nice it wasn't fully what I wanted and did I mention the weather was just terrible? Enough of this melancholy nonsense... it's getting me all depressed.

I am going back to work today and am really excited that it is a short week! I am definitely making an effort to put my best professional foot forward after the awkward conversation last week. I am trying to work with what I have in my closet in the mean time while I wait for Target to stop putting grocery sections in their stores and put out their fall clothes (seriously every single store near me, I can't escape it!) which I am hoping includes a suit since I have a gift card... Please let me know if you see anything at a store near you!

August 12, 2011: Hard of Hearing

I know I was supposed to dress more professionally AKA wear more suits but, Friday's don't count towards that do they? O, they do... well maybe next week! I was headed to Boscobel again for the Hudson Valley Shakespeare festival and I wanted to be the most comfy; enter super drapey everything.

August 11, 2011: Awkward Conversations

What's so funny? Well BF was having a little trouble standing up straight to take this picture. I think it was a combination of tiredness and alcohol. No he's not a lush but, once and a while he will go out with his friends from work and have a few. Mix that with a long day of work and it's pretty funny but, a little awkward if you are trying to do something important like take blog pictures, have a conversation, or stand up straight...

Speaking of work I had a really strange conversation with my director about the fact that I looked tired and haven't been my normal self. To which I responded that I was a bit tired and since I have been taking new medications and vitamins I speculated that was the reason. She said she understood and said that it showed in my appearance and that people noticed. She also said that I should really push to appear/dress more professionally because my department was the face of the company and we needed to represent (insert gang hand sign here) The final remark was that I should walk around dressing/acting like I owned the place. It was very strange and very awkward. I think I need to buy more suits... What would you take from that conversation?

  • Top: ivory tank top, LOFT/Mom's closet clean-out; blue embellished cardigan, Merona for Target/b-day gift from BF's parents

August 2, 2011: Same Shizzle, Different Day

Despite everything else that is going on this week today is another day at the office... when I was younger this would not have been the case. I probably would have taken the week off for my birthday or work as little as humanly possible to prepare for the celebration that was my birthday. Why is that? Because my birthday might as well have been national holiday in my house... Maybe my parents totally (over)compensated for the fact that no one is around at this time in the summer to celebrate or maybe I'm just that awesome, either way birthdays were fantastic. As I get older they aren't as grandiose and that's ok. I don't really have the effort to put into planning and coordinating a party and it's still a challenge to find people that haven't evacuated NYC for the summer.

Also, as I get older there is more going on this week than just my birthday I have appointments that I need to keep and other things that need to get taken care of... I guess that is the glamour of growing up!

June 28, 2011: The Easy Way Out

As the weather heats up in New York I find myself heading to the other side of my closet: Dress (and Skirt) Land. It is just so much more convenient to throw a dress over my head or slide a skirt on and head out the door. Plus, it can still be super professional if need be... How do you keep yourself cool in the warm weather while still staying professional?

April 7, 2011: Late Night, Early Morning

Last night I went to a "secret" V'ta Jewelry sale and was out quite past my bedtime looking at pretty sparkly things, enjoying the good company of friends, and drinking rosé. It was a great night but, I had trouble tearing myself away from my bed this morning. It's a good thing I managed to take pictures on Sunday so I had an outfit in mind when I finally got up. Thankfully tomorrow is Friday and then the weekend which will be really relaxing and fun jam packed and super busy, wait that's wrong...

February 4, 2011: Support The Cause

As I mentioned in my FBFF post I will be taking part in raising awareness about heart disease this month by joining these lovely ladies in wearing red on Fridays in February. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. It is also a leading cause of disability among women so we need to be aware of it and stay healthy! I'm talking to you hips...

I have a confession to make. I didn't get to my reservation on Wednesday... BF is having some dental stuff done that is interfering with eating but, we are going tonight! I got Restaurant Week reservations at a nice steakhouse in midtown (hence no jeans) and I would like to take the opportunity to celebrate some of the good things that have been happening.

October 27, 2010: What's Black and White and Red All Over?

That would be me. This is one of my favorite color combinations, a total classic! Sometimes I feel like I'm not being as creative when I rely on something so tried and true but, just can't help it... it totally works. What are you favorite color combinations?

August 20, 2010: Twice In A Row

Today is another "need to be comfy" day (this time it's BF who needs an early morning ride) cleverly disguised as casual friday and the perfect excuse to rock my jeggings. I am a total convert but, I digress...  Today's fantastic and comfy outfit makes me feel (on some level) like I'm relying to much on clothes that could be worn when the weather gets a bit cooler and that I'm not utilizing all my warm weather things to their best advantage. I could totally see myself wearing this exact same outfit, for example, with a scarf/ballet flats and it being perfect for the fall but, according to my official rules that would be cheating. O well, I will make it work when the temperature starts to drop!

As for today, I'm sure you would (correctly) expect that I am so excited this week is over, especially after these past two days of early morning rising. At least I have fun things to look forward to this weekend. Dinner with one of my besties after work today and a visit from my fav cousin tomorrow... fun times! Maybe I'll snap some pictures while we're out and about. What are your plans this weekend?
  • Top: gray v-neck top, Old Navy with a tank top underneath for the modesty
  • Bottom: denim jeggings, LOFT birthday gift from Mom
  • Shoes & Accessories: gladiator sandals, Christian Siriano for Payless; rainbow beaded earrings, via now defunct Moxie Bee; purple Coach bag

August 12, 2010: Double Take

Yesterday was surprising for me in that apparently curly hair is no big deal! Barely anybody commented (IRL) on it, I'm not sure if that's disappointing or negligible. I guess there are other things to focus on at work besides the state of my locks. Today it's up in a messy bun because I am in a rush and it's being a little wild. This easy fix is the one thing I missed about curly hair! This bun looks alot more interesting than one with pin straight hair. Maybe it was all the humidity and "nature" that I was exposed to at Boscobel last night... I would actually recommend going to take in some Shakespeare or just the beautiful gardens if you have the time but, bring bug spray! Here are a few shots of last night before the show started:

Today's outfit might seem similar to you and that's because it is! I wore an almost identical outfit in July and I'm not sure which works better. In the previous one I was just looking for something that "matched" with but, I think this might "go" better. Let me know what you think in the poll below!
  • Top: coral embellished tank top, LOFT via Mom
  • Bottom: blue polka dot skirt, New York and Company (same skirt on the weekend here)
  • Shoes & Accessories: gladiator sandals, Christian Siriano for Payless; gold perforated earrings, New York and Company; brown leather tote, Bulga

July 8, 2010: Second Hand Treasures

I would just like to follow up on yesterday's post. The dress was very well received by everyone in my department who cared to notice, including my bosses. In fact, I got lots of compliments. So, I'm happy with that!

Moving along... Do you ever have those moments where you look at your closet and think, "What is all of this? Time to clean!"? That happens to me alot and just a few days ago the mood struck my mother. I love to help her go through her clothes, give her honest feedback, and snag a few pieces that she is letting go. This top is one of those gems! What are some of your secondhand finds that you absolutely love?
  • Top: coral embellished tank top, LOFT via Mom
  • Bottom: pink and coral polka dot skirt, New York and Company (same skirt different color here)
  • Shoes & Accessories: gladiator sandals, Christian Siriano for Payless. I decided to keep them (obviously, which brings my June spending total to $9.00! I'm breaking the bank, haha) and ended up going with the 8.5 (I'm normally a 9) so they are a little tight but still comfortable and, I know will stretch just enough; gold and mixed metal earrings, gift from my co-worker Natalia/free gift with her purchase from ModCloth; blue Foley + Corrina City Clutch gifted via Plaza Too

Puchases: June 2010

This month's shopping was light like last month.... the only thing that I bought was a pair of Christian Siriano for Payless sandals that I have been obsessing over for while because they went on super duper sale. The catch is that I'm not exactly sure what size I am so, I might end up returning what I ordered if the don't fit. I'm going to the store today to pick up my package so we shall see... it might end up being no purchases in June whatsoever if they don't work out!
