January 4, 2011: From Mom
My mother and I are very similar in alot of ways. It's one of those things that I didn't fully realize but, still tried to fight when I was a teenager. Now, I'm cool with it! For one we look like each other... don't you see the resemblance? But, other things like our penchant for word games, hardwood floors, altruistic natures, and love of unique handcrafted jewelry (to name a few) grow day by day. This Christmas (thanks to Mom and the latter) I found this great necklace sitting under the tree. A small group of native Johannesburg, South Africa, artisans, called Inkwenkwezi, began making safety-pin jewelry in 1992 and this is one of those items. I would not have instantly gravitated towards this piece for more than it's novel appearance but, mother knows best (don't tell her I said that) and I am really loving the way it fills in the space around the collar of this sweater. How else would you style this piece? Mom says with a black turtleneck but, I am skeptical...

I think maybe another option could be a crisp, white button down so the colors in the necklace would really pop. But then, I kind of have a flare for the boring. Regardless, it's a great piece!
ReplyDeleteMy mom always tells me to wear necklaces with black turtlenecks, and I am also always skeptical. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I say try it, but I also think that necklace would work well with any v-neck or scoop neck top. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAre those kitten heels? I need a nice, basic pair like this to go with certain trousers. Pointy, but not tooooo pointy, ya know?
ReplyDeleteYou look super cute. I love those shoes and that necklace!
