What Goes Around...

This outfit is from yesterday, I think I might have a two post a day limit in terms of what I can churn out. Maybe today I will break that streak and catch up. Better yet, maybe I can even get ahead of the curve! Whoa. I know, I know, I need to take it one steps at a time and not get ahead of myself. Anyway, clothes...

I picked this dress up at Old Navy a long time ago like, years. Do you remember it? I feel like you probably do because it was all over their ad campaign that season but, I digress... Then, I didn't really wear it all that often because it got too small/was a little too short. I did the only logical thing at that point and gave it to my Mom so someone could take advantage of it. Fast forward to now and it's back in my closet. Isn't it funny how that works out sometimes?

Work Day; Night Out

Since the colleagues from my department that resigned are still here until the end of the week it's only natural that we give them some sort of going away celebration, right? No? You're heartless... There was an in office "meeting" which involved members from our organization at all levels with cake, cookies, and other dainties but, that wasn't really what my manager and I had in mind. We were envisioning the kind of celebration for a smaller group, happy hour cocktails, and delicious cuisine at a swanky lounge so, that's what we're doing this evening.

With that in mind I put together this outfit knowing I would not have time to go home after work and change before heading out to drink and dine with my co-workers. Naturally, this ensemble needed to be something that I could wear in the office but, would not garner any judgmental side glances from the fellow revelers during my evening excursion. Night life in NYC is it's own little world with it's own set of rules. That's being said it is Wednesday so, who are they to judge I'm not worried.

April 17, 2012: I've Got (Pastel) Yellow

As I have said before pastels are something that always make me thing of spring, warmer weather, easter, etc. While I would still wear pastels even if they weren't trendy it's nice that they are. What I found the most difficult about this pairing was the fact that a pastel yellow eyelet lace skirt might not be the most office appropriate thing but, paired with a blazer I think it's passable... what do you think?

Work With What You've Got: Leftovers

I know everyone is familiar with Sally Hansen Manicure Strips. If you're not then you need to get with the program! They are pretty fantastic, allowing people to have some of the snazziest nails without the painstakingly long trip to the actual salon.

But, when all that is said and done you still have 6 additional strips that didn't fit on your digits! And as economical as these nail strips might seem they actually cost more than a manicure in some stores... not cool! What's the point of doing it yourself if you are going to pay more?

I have seen lots of other people do only the ring or pointer finger but, I wanted to try something different! So I decided to do a little patchwork... I started out with a basic manicure using Maybelline's Salon Expert Nail Polish in Sheer Ballet Pink. Then I did some of this:

You can cut and place them anyway you like. I cut them in half/thirds and placed them in a symmetrical patterns on my nails. I also ended up painting another coat of nail polish on one side so that the nail strip wasn't dramatically higher than the rest of the nail bed. As great as these nail strips are one of the best ways to ensure a long lasting manicure with them is to start with very clean nails and I don't think manicured nails qualify; We'll see how long it lasts...

Either way I like the finished product! It is unique and it's subtle. I also think it would look great with a more noticeable contrast like lace and maroon, lightbulb! No one has given me any feedback yet but, I think it's only a matter of time... Have you thought of any cool uses for your extra polish strips?

Easter Sunday 2011

Did you do anything fun for Easter/Passover? I spent time with my family and had dinner with one of my close friend and her family. It was a great day with my favorite people! Since I shared my Easter outfit with you last year I thought it would only be fair to do the same thing this year. So here it is...

September 23, 2010: Somewhat Autumn

This first day of fall doesn't really feel like fall yet but, the calendar (and my challenge) don't lie! Regardless, I have a meeting this morning at 8:30 (what is up with that?) so, I need to look put together despite the slightly ridiculous hour. I think this sweater with the pearls and these fabulous shoes really do the trick! I might even throw on a blazer to combat the morning chill and enhance the professional look! I know, I'm going all out...

  • Bottom: red eyelet trim skirt, Old Navy

July 1, 2010: Out Of It

I am so burnt out this week and I don't know why. Today for example I stood in front of my closet completely incapable of putting an outfit together. I am pretty satisfied with what I came up with but, it took twice as long as it normally would and the bedroom floor is now covered in rejects from the process. It's extra frustrating because I just got back from vacation for cripes sake! Either way, I have been waking up every morning feeling really out of it and have been fighting the urge/need to call in sick... tomorrow might be the day.

On another note, the roundup is taking longer than I thought it would. My new laptop crashing definitely set me back in terms of tracking and pictures so, I'm still working on it but, when I'm done I will (hopefully) have a really comprehensive look at what has been happening so far! Also, to celebrate the three month mark there might be some giveaway action, we shall see...

June 21, 2010: Pink Lady

I'm so excited that it is the first day of summer but, I'm not going to burst into song ala Rizzo in Grease despite what you might thing. I hope everyone had a great Father's Day and an all around lovely weekend! The dress I'm wearing today has a really classic cut (with pockets, my fav) so I'm dressing it up with vintage inspired accessories to enhance a little bit of that throwback feel.

June 8, 2010

Day 2 of Summer Black-Out 2010! I am rushing out the door for work (I really need to wake up earlier) but, thankfully it will be a pretty standard work day. Though, there is no "standard" black here since I'm using gray and flesh tones as my neutrals! I will be trying to sneak out early to run some pre-dinner errands AKA buy vino because my friend Alex (who I haven't seen in FOREVER) is coming over tonight. Vino is a very fundamental component of girly friend dinner! I'm excited so, in the words of Alex, "Squeeee!"
  • Top: blue crochet neck blouse, Ann Taylor Loft, (same shirt different color here, I'm all about buying multiples)
  • Bottom: gray pencil skirt, New York & Company
  • Shoes & Accessories: nude snake print sandals, Bandolino via Unique Thrift; silver, amethyst, and some other light blue stone earring from Pennyweights; purple Coach bag

June 3, 2010

I've got nude shoes! Which I also had yesterday but, they weren't the focus. It's a 9 AM meeting kind of work day but, fun "date night" with one of my girlfriends after. I'll have flip flops in my bag, for sure, since I probably won't get to make a stop at home and these shoes are comfy but, not that much. I'm excited for a laid back dinner and mildly amused by the prospect of Sex and The City 2. I fear that by the end of the night it will turn into a general disappointment but, I digress... The dress on the other hand, I could wear for days, SO comfy! Either way I think the shoes really pop being the only thing I'm wearing that is not black! Too severe?

Speaking of black next week I will be taking the blackout challenge, no black for one week. I am gettin it all in today but, since I don't generally wear an overwhelming amount of black I'm going to try and go all the way, no shoes or accessories either! That will be more of a challenge and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to pull it off but, I'm definitely willing to give it a try!

June 2, 2010

It's the second day of my (short) theme week and I've got military(ish) style with a side of nude shoes! I originally thought I was going to be representing cargo pants but, when I pulled these out of my closet I found that they didn't possess the key characteristic of side pockets... Tradegy! But, I think on my feet (sometimes) and pulled this khaki green blazer that I have since high school out. The somewhat "edgy yet professional" attitude of the outfit is kind of perfect for the job fair I had to go to today... Success!

Today is going to be a whirlwind day as well. My boss is in Bermuda (lucky) so I will be the point person on projects we were working on together also I also have interviews and the same old day to day stuff. 5 O'clock where are you?
