Purchases & Acquisitions: August 2012
This time last year I kept it together and didn't shop at all during my birthday month. I try to look at birthdays the same way I view Christmas; People are going to buy you things so you don't necessarily need to buy anything for yourself. It didn't work out so well this year... I wanted to get fancy for the my weekend birthday celebration and couldn't very well wear that same dress as I did on my actual birthday. While wandering around in I ended up getting this fab color block maxi dress for my party. It was spot on in terms of summer trends, comfort, and all around fabulous-ness AKA totally worth the $29.99.
In terms of other things I got as gifts there were a few fun things that you might have already seen if you arestalking following me on Instagram like a gorgeous Maggy London dress from BF's parents, some lovely dresses from eShakti that my parents bought me, a box of goodies from my cousin including a shirt that I am dying to wear, and some basics (white tank tops, yoga pants) from my parents, as well as, the trendy dress I wore on my actual birthday from BF. I am so thankful for everything! I feel so lucky to be so loved and by such stylish people to boot.

April 5, 2012: Impromptu Girls Night Out
Today is my Friday and I am so excited! What are my big
plans for tomorrow? O, nothing just hanging out because my office is closed! I
have some personal errands to run but, it’s ok because there is all the time
in the world all day to take care of them. Did I mention my excitement?
Yeah… The temptation to wear skinny pants and a comfy, flowy shirt was overwhelming but, I resisted. After all, I am trying to be the most
professional me that I can be!
What I was most excited for was 5:00. I have been doing
things after work pretty much every night this week so far and am
excited to head home and take it easy! What ended up happening was something totally different but, isn't that always the way? Some of my co-workers were meeting up at a place really close to my house so I decided to join them for a bit which turned into longer... good times! Do you have any fun plans for this holiday weekend?

June 29, 2011: Self Inspired
Do you like the progression of curly hair? First day it is down, then half up, then all up. If I don't do something drastic (like wash it) there is going to be some craziness! Or I will just put it up in a ponytail again but, I digress...
When trying to plan out today's outfit I wasn't really struck with any great ideas until I caught a glimpse of this skirt hanging in my closet. I remembered that fun combo that I wore the other night to go out and thought why not do something similar for today? I could have gone with the same exact thing and just thrown a blazer over it (that is allowed by the rules) but, that would be too easy. Maybe I'll save that for another day... How do you make your weekend looks work for the professional/academic world? Is there even a need for you to differentiate?

Night Out: Charity Auction - Mad Men Style
Two of my nearest and dearest friends invited me to an auction at their church. I have heard alot about the fun times that occur and could not wait to be a part of it! The theme of the auction was Mad Men so I needed to come up with an outfit that was representative of that era/show but, wouldn't cost me anything... The biggest challenge was the fact that I have never seen the show (for shame, I know) so I was working with a copious number of images from Google. While I went with a classic clothing pieces I really spiced everything up with the shoes. They style is vintage but, the leopard is so now! You'll have to forgive the state of my hair and makeup, these photos were taken at the end of the evening. I promise, everything was much more sleek at the beginning of the night. How do you think the look came out?

September 6, 2010: Wardrobe Workhorse Week Begins
I can't think of a more apropos occasion for Scholar Style Guide's Wardrobe Workhorse Week to begin than Labor Day! It was interesting considering what items of clothing I wear most frequently since I am in fact concerned with style. It added a whole new factor in my outfit selection this morning, that's for sure. Being that I actually had the day off today, I was definitely going to wear jeans. But, I questioned if it was a cop out to do so much like Katie from Interrobangs Anonymous noted how her black jersey dress could be looked at in the same light. When you really think about it, there are very few items of clothing that are actual workhorses in the same way that denim jeans are, that is what they were made for back in the day!
Personally, my denim style has evolved considerably over the years. I used to wear relaxed fit, baggy jeans, even baggier jeans, bootcut, flare, etc... but, the most flattering ones that I have ever worn are trouser jeans. They are casual enough to worn in everyday laid back situations but, can be dressed up for fancier events especially if they are a darker wash. If they were allowed in the everyday workplace I would wear them for that as well. Although, as I have admitted I am falling for the jegging they can't replace the trouser!

This week (and day) has gone by so quickly; I almost didn't realize that tomorrow is Friday and this weekend is a holiday weekend! It's almost worth all the crazy running around... I love three day weekends when I don't have to give up vacation day. What are you doing for Memorial Day?
Also, more to come on the theme week later today or tomorrow morning. I am just ironing out the last little details AKA making a cool banner. I hope you will join me!

April 28, 2010
Do you like the new picture background? I moved to another spot in my hallway, super exciting!!! It's still a work in progress... One day I will take fantastic pictures but, practice makes perfect and today is not that day.
The sun is peeking it's head out and even though it's still cold I'm feeling excited about not being head to toe covered up. Time for capris! Sadly, I think part of the reason that my outfit doesn't look ah-mazing in this mediocre picture is because the items of clothes are a little big on me, especially the shirt. I thought I weeded all those items out of my closet... I guess not. This shirt might need to go in the donation bag when I get home.
I am trying to find similar and affordable versions of what I am wearing because not many items from my wardrobe are currently in stores now since the whole point of this is to not buy (a ton) of new clothes. Is that something that interests you? Leave me a comment and let me know.
