I can't think of a more apropos occasion for Scholar Style Guide's Wardrobe Workhorse Week to begin than Labor Day! It was interesting considering what items of clothing I wear most frequently since I am in fact concerned with style. It added a whole new factor in my outfit selection this morning, that's for sure. Being that I actually had the day off today, I was definitely going to wear jeans. But, I questioned if it was a cop out to do so much like Katie from Interrobangs Anonymous noted how her black jersey dress could be looked at in the same light. When you really think about it, there are very few items of clothing that are actual workhorses in the same way that denim jeans are, that is what they were made for back in the day!
Personally, my denim style has evolved considerably over the years. I used to wear relaxed fit, baggy jeans, even baggier jeans, bootcut, flare, etc... but, the most flattering ones that I have ever worn are trouser jeans. They are casual enough to worn in everyday laid back situations but, can be dressed up for fancier events especially if they are a darker wash. If they were allowed in the everyday workplace I would wear them for that as well. Although, as I have admitted I am falling for the jegging they can't replace the trouser!
- Top: aqua dolman sleeve top, Old Navy with a tank top underneath for the modesty
- Bottom: trouser jeans, GAP outlet
- Shoes & Accessories: silver beaded flip flops, Target; mixed metal earrings, gift from my co-worker Natalia/ModCloth; vintage Louis Vuitton speedy, eBay (not pictured)

Glad to see I'm not alone in thinking of dark jeans as a workhorse! It's a slightly unexpected pick for either of us, I think, since we both blog frequently about dressing up for work, but I guess jeans are just a staple. I also like that if I can't think of anything else on a more casual day, I always know I'll feel great in my jeans.

Wow, I really love the bright colors of those tops (both mixed together and with your skin tone). I really dig the casual cute vibe here as well.
