Customer Service On Fleek

You can't stop my onslaught of continuous white after Labor Day; Wednesday was only the beginning! Muah haha... Ok, ok I'm getting carried away.

The first time I wore this (style of) Lafayette 148 skirt it broke. I sat down, some seams popped, totes embarrassing. Then the most amazing thing happened: I promoted the post, as I do, Lafayette 148 actually checked it out (yay, social media works!,) and when they saw what had transpired they contacted me. Yes, a real life person emailed me/called me and sent me a new skirt which is what I was wearing yesterday. They even sent it to me in a larger size because, apparently, I was in denial about my actual size but, I digress... To this day I count that whole exchange as one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had and remember Lafayette 148 and Nora (the rep who contacted me) fondly.

Fast forward to less face and this Lafayette 148 skirt was under criticism again because it didn't fit for a second time! After all the time I spent working on my fitness the skirt was swimming on me (yay?) I had removed it from my regular wardrobe circulation but, I couldn't bring myself to put it in the donation pile or even Poshmark it because of the positive memories tied to it. Also, rainbow and tweed? That combination couldn't be more me so, I took it to the tailor and now it fits like a glove but, not too tight. There will be no repeat of Seam Bust 2011, at least I hope not.

Jacket Strongly Suggested

While I love mixing and matching separates as much as the next person sometimes you just want to wear a suit. Whether it is because the situation expressly calls for it or you are just feeling that a suit is more appropriate it is good to have at least one good suit in your wardrobe as a standby for such occasions. Even though I have amassed a moderate suit wardrobe none of them fit me (as you all know) and that is getting old. I think it's time to suck it up and buy at least one new suit even if I could still end up losing more face because today is one of those work days where a suit would have been more appropriate

Even though I feel like a suit might have been a more appropriate ensemble today, I am in love with the skirt I am wearing. Yay, other clothes too! But, I digress... first of all it's tweed and we all know how I feel about that. Secondly, if you look closely you'll see, the tweed has a rainbow of colors integrated amidst the overall black and white color combo. When I came across it in Goodwill I was drawn to the tweed but, I couldn't put it down after I tried it on because of all the subtle colors. What was the last item you can across while shopping that was just meant to be part of your wardrobe?

Nail Files: Expressionist

As you might have seen there was a flurry of articles this week regarding health concerns and abhorrent conditions for nail salon workers in New York City and surrounding areas. You didn't see them? Well, if you were following me on Twitter you would have. The articles definitely made me think about this industry that I have been partaking in (however irregularly) since high school in a different light and right as the pedicure season is upon us... But, do I really want to support an industry that does not properly compensate their hard workers? How about one that puts them at risk for major health problems? Not, really. How about you?

This weekend I gave myself a mani/pedi. It wasn't as intricate as last week but, thanks to Nailipop manicure strips it didn't have to be to look that way. I love all the colors in this design and putting them on was a piece of cake. Here are some things that I know to be true about putting on manicure strips:
  1. Make sure your nails are super clean before you start.
  2. Make sure that you hold the nail strip to your nail for at least 30 seconds so that it adheres effectively. The stickiness of the strip and the heat from your hand should help create a strong bond.
  3. File the manicure strip in a DOWNWARD motion it’ll help keep the end of the strip from lifting with a small grit file to create and even/clean edge.
These tips works with every type of nail strip I have tried so far. Do you use nail strips or do you stick with polish? If so, what types of polish strips do you prefer.

August 8, 2012: On The Mend

I am wearing real shoes for the first time in weeks! When I first sprained my ankle I was excited to shirk my office dress code and wear flip flops to work because my air cast doesn't fit in any of my shoes. Thankfully, my boss was understanding about the whole thing. After the first week I was back to putting together outfits complete with complimentary wedges or heels but, was unable to wear them without putting unnecessary stress on my ankle without further injuring myself.I'm not 100% better but, I am able to downgrade the air cast for a stretchy brace and wear real shoes. I can't wait to get back in some heels!

June 1, 2011: Off Season

Some people might think that tweed is one of those things that should only be worn in the winter. I am not one of those people (obvi.) Perhaps, it's because I don't stores my "winter clothes" in the summer and vice versa. With this skirt specifically it's probably because I picked the it up while I was in California so that must mean it's for warmer weather, right? Either way I will ignore the funny looks I get for wearing tweed when it's 80°+ outside. What are some seasonal barriers that you ignore?

April 8, 2011: Colorblind Again?

This is where things get totally bonkers; I was really reaching for thing that I have not worn in the parameters of what I wanted to wear today. Does that make sense? I think so... In other words I didn't want to force myself to wear something just because it had never been worn if I wasn't feeling it. This outfit took some stretching but, in the end I like the color combination and it's comfy. I can't say that this dress works as well as a skirt compared to others but, it gets the job done. This outfit isn't that crazy right?

March 22, 2011: Everything Comes Naturally

I almost can't believe that it has taken me so long to wear this skirt. I was so excited to get it in the mail after customer service from Lafayette 148 got in touch with me regarding the unfortunate demise of the one I picked up while I was on vacation. Don't you remember? No? Well you need to visit me here more often and keep up...

I went in the opposite direction in terms of colors to pair with it this time. Last time it was vibrant yellow, this time a color palette that is al natural. I feel a bit like I'm channeling mossy tree but, I kind of like it despite the fact that it is such an unlikely color combination for me. What  is the most out of the box color combo you've ever put together?

FBFF: Somewhere Over The Rainbow Is My Closet

1. What color dominates your closet?

I think I have a pretty good amount of all the colors, I try to be an equal opportunity fashionista. Recently though I have be leaning more towards gray as my fav neutral but, that's about it. We shall see though as I move into this new position, maybe I'll end up in what one of my co-workers referred to as the "city uniform" i.e. head to toe black and gray, doubtful...

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?

I don't think money makes a difference at all. A lack of it definitely doesn't stop me from being fashionable so, similarly it doesn't keep me from incorporating color.

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?

I generally subscribe to the idea of being adventurous but, trusting your gut. If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see don't wear it but, that rule goes so far beyond just mixing colors.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?

I try to make it a point to wear all the clothes in my closet which means all the colored pieces I have. Given my personal style challenge I can't rely on a few pieces to make up my wardrobe and I push myself to wear them all!

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?

I think Lydia from Chic on the Cheap, Joann from Sidewalk Chic, and Marie from The Joy of Fashion do an great job with color

February 3, 2011: On The Bus

Lydia from Chic on the Cheap is wearing yellow this week and I thought I would join in! Hopefully it will coax the sun out of hiding and we can move past this winter junk... It seemed like the perfect time to bust out this lovely tweed skirt that I purchased while on vaca in Cali. I'm glad I got to wear it because apparently it was a one time only thing... I'm going to officially blame it on shoddy workmanship but, some part of me can't help feeling that my hips might have been the culprit. Actually, they admitted it to me and they don't lie! Sorry, couldn't help myself...

October 5. 2010: Four More Days

What's happening then you ask? Well, I am super excited because in four days I will be on a plane traveling to California for a much needed long vacation! Will you miss me when I'm gone? Until then it's work, getting everything ready for our cat sitter/house guest (AKA my little bro), and packing. Seems simple enough but, is surprisingly stressful! Hopefully I can get it all done...

Now you may ask, "Why are you wearing flip flops? It's rainy and cold outside!" The answer to that is simple, it doesn't feel that cold to me and I am prepping for the unseasonably hot California weather (which is apparently cooling down, sigh...) Also, I am in recovery from the 5K is ran walked this weekend for one of my favorite charities. I got the worst blisters on my heels and the idea of putting on shoes is not a happy one!

September 1, 2010: I'm Back

Sorry for being MIA the past few days. Monday I had taken the day off for a long weekend at the beach but, ended up staying home sick which carried over into yesterday. Now I am feeling a little better... good enough to go back to work, at least, because another day off and I will return to an avalanche of paperwork and e-mails (as if I'm not going to already!) I thought about keeping it super casual today (AKA yoga [like] pants) but, I need to finish wearing the forgotten shoes!
  • Top: purple tank top, Old Navy; another tank top underneath for the modesty
  • Bottom: white skirt, GAP
  • Shoes & Accessories: floral print wedges, Hollywould. I will be bringing flip flops as well, just incase; rainbow beaded earrings, via now defunct Moxie Bee; gray Balenciaga Le-Dix/motorcycle bag
