August 1, 2011: A Whole New World

So, we all know that I've been a little MIA (sorry) and it hasn't been just about life (work, personal obligations, health, etc.)  The obligation that I felt to keep up with the days I had missed was very daunting. Because I have pledged not to wear a repeated outfit to work for another year I  was stuck on the idea of documenting every single one even when I wasn't at a point where I was realistically able to due to other more pressing obligations.

I have finally gotten a good handle on my schedule, commuting, the job expectations, etc. and am more comfortable in general. These past six months have honestly been a huge challenge. So, I sat down with myself and had a conversation where we unanimously decided that it would be best if I just left all the old unfinished posts behind and kept moving forward. Not to say that I won't try to revisit the missing outfits but, I just can't keep scrambling to catch up to the point of burning myself out which is exactly what has been happening.

On to more fun things; It's my birthday this week and I am making even less of a big deal about it than last year. I planned a few small get togethers but, haven't really thought of anything I want. What I could probably use most would be a vacation but, that isn't happening for quite a while and now that I've figured my schedule out that isn't such a big deal but, when the time comes it will be glorious! What would you ask for if it was your birthday?

And now on to the clothes... keeping it professional while staying cool has been a challenge. The proverbial "they" says "Dress for the job you want" but, I would melt in a suit! So, a sweater vest seemed like a good compromise to me. What are some of your summer work staples?

June 13, 2011: Held On

I love this dress! I have had it for a long time and this is the first time that I have ever worn it out in public. Why? Well because it has a fairly open back and this deep drapey v-neck in the front. I'm glad I ignored the (logical) part of my brain that had told me to donate it so many times before and held on to it.

Since I was wearing it to work the easiest thing was to throw something over it. I think it might have been a bit more structured with a blazer or cardi, maybe next time... I also figured out (through much trial and error) that I can get away with a strapless bra and tank top for the modesty by day or night when I have plans with friends! I know, I know 2 + 2 = 4... revelations.

Thursdays and Fridays

While posting is (in my mind) starting to catch up and become more regular there have been a few days in the past few weeks that I have missed. The theme seems to be that I start out strong on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday but, fall off the wagon when it gets to Thursday and Friday.
It's the same old story but, I'm feeling that things are evening out I'm not a month behind just a few days... progress! I'm dedicated to making it better!

I hope everyone had a lovely long weekend. Did you see fireworks? Did you rock your stylish red, white, and blue? I'm sure you all looked fabulous in your patriotic wares!

First of all I would like to say thanks BF for snapping pictures of me mid blink, I look a bit tired/skeptical/ridiculous but, I digress... I am ready to get back to work today and it is going to be a hot one! A blazer seemed absolutely unbearable so I tried to think of a professional alternative; enter the vest! As the weather heats up in New York I find myself heading to the other side of my closet: Dress (and Skirt) Land. It is just so much more convenient to throw a dress over my head or slide a skirt on and head out the door. Plus, it can still be super professional if need be... How do you keep yourself cool in the warm weather while still staying professional?

I haven't participated in alot of these Everybody, Everywear things but, I am going to try to stay more on top of it. There is another reason besides my bad timing; I haven't really been super into everything they have selected. I'm only going to wear things that I like on my body and already have in my closet. Today, I can definitely get on board with lace. I don't think it's the easiest thing to wear in an everyday capacity but, when it's done well it's really lovely, I can't wait to see what Everybody, Everywear comes up with!

June 9, 2011: Remain Neutral

Guys, it is going to be 100°!! Well, not quite yet but, it will be by the afternoon. With all this heat I struggled to put an outfit together that was office appropriate but, wouldn't melt me. Ironically, I have been trying wear blazers all week and make that work for the summer but, it's just too hot!

In that arduous search I discovered another summer staple of professional wear that I am missing, traditional cardigans! I have three, honestly (this one, this one, and this one.) I also realized that the cardigan is the best alternative to the blazer during the warmer month when they are out of the question unless you want to fade from heat stroke trying to make it to your air conditioned office building. I know, I know 2 + 2 = 4... Do you have any other blazer alternatives that you utilize during the summer?

May 3, 2011: Cool Waves

I was all ready for Tuesday to be gray and dismal as predicted but, it really wasn't that bad at all. Thanks for misleading me Weather.com... I'm glad I threw caution to the wind when getting dressed though because if I had paid any attention I would have swaddled myself in clothing and thrown on a pair of boots. Instead I wore a pretty gifted dress (the best kind) and the day was all the better for it!

This is one of those times where something new entered my wardrobe and I might not have necessarily made a huge effort to mention it but, I will moving forward so you don't think I'm shopping on the sly. While my mom was at the thrift store she saw this dress and picked it up for me. She said it was "so Iris!" I guess I could agree with that, I do love a jersey knit dress...  What kinds of pieces are "so you"?

You may think that you have seen this sweater before but, you would be mistaken you might have seen it's sister or maybe it's rando cousin but, this sweater is all new (to you at least.) As I've said before: I'm all about buying multiples. When you find something that works for you at a good price, why not? April 4, 2011: Let's Get It Started

As you might have already surmised we are going into year two here at 260 Days, No Repeats. I'll talk about the specific rules as I wrap up Year 1 but, I'll let you in one of my main motivators: I still have things in my closet that I have not worn on the blog or on the weekends! It's crazy I know but, this shirt is the perfect example; I got it in August for my birthday and have been saving it for cooler weather. Well, Fall and Winter have passed and it was still hanging out in my closet (pun intended) passed over for other shirts of a gray persuasion. Well, that ended today! I am making an effort this week to focus on things that you have never seen here before. I warn you though, things could get a little crazy... Case and point this out of the box for me crazy wearing my necklace around my collar like some sort of sparkly tie thing but, what can I say? In actuality I've been wearing the same outfit everyday for the past year, I just like to take pictures of myself! Not really... Sorry, I have no (good) silly little joke to play on you guys. I'm the worst at April Fools.

This sweater was an awesome find at Re-Dress on the day that I played dress up (see my Facebook page.) That excursion wasn't all about crazy blanket pants and maribou feather trimmed sweaters! March 29, 2011: Reaching Beyond The Ordinary

When I started with this outfit it was terribly unimpressive. Solid colored sweater? Check. Solid colored skirt? Check. Black pumps? Check Scratch that, I almost put myself to sleep with that boring nonsense! Thank goodness I have an excellent ok memory and remembered these fantastic tweed shoes that I haven't worn in quite a while. They are from a time before I had my shopping under control and whatever struck my fancy  and was priced "within reason" would come home with me. I guess on some level I'm happy I was so unencumbered by fiscal responsibility because now I have a pretty fabulous selection of accessories. On another level I'm sad because it will not continue to grow as it had been... Do I have a matching bag to go with these shoes? I may or may not... If so, is it tiny and completely impractical for the more grown up Iris? Yes. What an inexperienced fashionista I was, paying close attention to such silly fashion rules! But, I digress... I'm shocked that year one is almost finished and there are still things in my closet/accessory collection that I haven't worn on this blog yet. Do I sense a year two coming? Perhaps.

I can't believe that I am almost at the end of one year wearing no repeats to work! It seems like only a month or two ago I started. Maybe that's why I almost repeated an outfit this morning. Thankfully, I have been very accurate in my cataloging of outfits. I guess you can't help leaning towards your first instinct, too bad I already went with that! On a related note, I have almost finished compiling all of my "lost outfits" you know... the ones I've been too busy to post. March 21, 2011: Back From Beyond

No, you're not seeing a mirage, I am the real Iris. Sorry for my absenteeism; life, work, and catching a wicked cold have really messed with my outfit posting rhythm. I'm trying to get back in the groove and in an effort not to get even more behind think it's best to just jump right back in with today's outfit. I know we are missing almost a week and a half of outfits but, I promise I took pictures each and everyday and I will get those up ASAP.

It feels like spring has sprung here and I could not be happier. I will take the proverbial April showers over snow any day! That being said there is still a chill in the air so we're not quite at the point where outfits like this are appropriate yet but, I know it's coming and that makes me happy.
